Date: c. AD 49–52. Paul's appearance before Gallio, proconsul of Achaia c. AD 51–52 according to an inscription at Delphi, anchors this journey.
At Derbe and Lystra, Paul invites Timothy, a disciple well spoken of by the believers, to join them. As they deliver the decisions of the Jerusalem council, the churches grow stronger and larger.
Primary Scripture
16:1 Paul came to Derbe and then to Lystra, where he found a disciple named Timothy, the son of a believing Jewish woman and a Greek father.
16:2 The brothers in Lystra and Iconium spoke well of him.
16:3 Paul wanted Timothy to accompany him, so he took him and circumcised him on account of the Jews in that area, for they all knew that his father was a Greek.
16:4 As they went from town to town, they delivered the decisions handed down by the apostles and elders in Jerusalem for the people to obey.
16:5 So the churches were strengthened in the faith and grew daily in numbers.
