Paul goes on foot to Assos while the others sail, then the company sails by way of Mitylene, Chios and Samos to Miletus. Paul passes by Ephesus, hurrying to reach Jerusalem by Pentecost.
Primary Scripture
20:13 We went on ahead to the ship and sailed to Assos, where we were to take Paul aboard. He had arranged this because he was going there on foot.
20:14 And when he met us at Assos, we took him aboard and went on to Mitylene.
20:15 Sailing on from there, we arrived the next day opposite Chios. The day after that we arrived at Samos, and on the following day we came to Miletus.
20:16 Paul had decided to sail past Ephesus to avoid spending time in the province of Asia, because he was in a hurry to reach Jerusalem, if possible, by the day of Pentecost.

Interpretation and reuse
Narrative order is a reading arrangement, not a proven chronology. Dates retain their stated uncertainty. An identified locality does not establish the exact venue or prove an event. Region extents and routes are illustrative, not surveyed boundaries or ancient roads. Draft material has not completed editorial review.
