Date: Ministry in Galilee. A guided comparison of Gospel accounts, not a measured calendar or a claim that every parallel follows the same sequence.

As Jesus travels through Galilee, he again tells the disciples that he will be delivered over, killed and raised. They respond with grief or confusion, and Mark and Luke say they are afraid to ask him.

The prediction comes amid ministry that amazes the crowds. The contrast between public wonder and the disciples’ difficulty understanding is part of the narrative, not evidence that the resurrection promise is absent.

Primary Scripture

Matthew 17:22–23 (BSB)

17:22 When they gathered together in Galilee, Jesus told them, “The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men.

17:23 They will kill Him, and on the third day He will be raised to life.” And the disciples were deeply grieved.

Mark 9:30–32 (BSB)

9:30 Going on from there, they passed through Galilee. But Jesus did not want anyone to know,

9:31 because He was teaching His disciples. He told them, “The Son of Man will be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill Him, and after three days He will rise.”

9:32 But they did not understand this statement, and they were afraid to ask Him about it.

Luke 9:43–45 (BSB)

9:43 And they were all astonished at the greatness of God. While everyone was marveling at all that Jesus was doing, He said to His disciples,

9:44 “Let these words sink into your ears: The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men.”

9:45 But they did not understand this statement. It was veiled from them so that they could not comprehend it, and they were afraid to ask Him about it.

Interpretation and reuse

Narrative order is a reading arrangement, not a proven chronology. Dates retain their stated uncertainty. An identified locality does not establish the exact venue or prove an event. Region extents and routes are illustrative, not surveyed boundaries or ancient roads. Draft material has not completed editorial review.
