Date: Judea, Perea and the road to Jerusalem. A guided comparison of Gospel accounts, not a measured calendar or a claim that every parallel follows the same sequence.

Jesus compares God’s kingdom with a mustard seed that grows to shelter birds and with leaven that works through flour. The paired images follow the Sabbath restoration in Luke’s account.

These are brief comparisons, not a mapped agricultural event or a calendar for the kingdom’s growth. Luke places them here, while Matthew places parallel images within his seaside parable collection.

Primary Scripture

Luke 13:18–21 (BSB)

13:18 Then Jesus asked, “What is the kingdom of God like? To what can I compare it?

13:19 It is like a mustard seed that a man tossed into his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air nested in its branches.”

13:20 Again He asked, “To what can I compare the kingdom of God?

13:21 It is like leaven that a woman took and mixed into three measures of flour, until all of it was leavened.”

Related Scripture

Ezekiel’s planted tree sheltering birds offers a prophetic comparison with the growth image.

Location evidence

The illustrations follow Luke’s synagogue scene, whose town is unnamed. The garden and household in the comparisons are not mapped events.

No event map marker is assigned. Do not infer an exact venue from related places.

Interpretation and reuse

Narrative order is a reading arrangement, not a proven chronology. Dates retain their stated uncertainty. An identified locality does not establish the exact venue or prove an event. Region extents and routes are illustrative, not surveyed boundaries or ancient roads. Draft material has not completed editorial review.
