Jesus meets Martha and Mary

Date: Judea, Perea and the road to Jerusalem. A guided comparison of Gospel accounts, not a measured calendar or a claim that every parallel follows the same sequence.
Martha welcomes Jesus into her home while Mary listens at his feet. Troubled by the preparations, Martha asks him to intervene; he answers her anxiety and affirms Mary’s choice to listen.
Luke names neither the village nor Lazarus here. John associates Martha and Mary with Bethany, but that comparison does not turn Luke’s unnamed location into an explicit Bethany reference. The scene does not dismiss all service.
Primary Scripture
10:38 As they traveled along, Jesus entered a village where a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home.
10:39 She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to His message.
10:40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations to be made. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her to help me!”
10:41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord replied, “you are worried and upset about many things.
10:42 But only one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, and it will not be taken away from her.”
Related Scripture
Luke earlier emphasizes hearing God’s word and putting it into practice.
Location evidence
Luke calls the setting a village without naming it. The connection with John’s Bethany family is plausible but does not make this visit’s location explicit.
No event map marker is assigned. Do not infer an exact venue from related places.

Interpretation and reuse
Narrative order is a reading arrangement, not a proven chronology. Dates retain their stated uncertainty. An identified locality does not establish the exact venue or prove an event. Region extents and routes are illustrative, not surveyed boundaries or ancient roads. Draft material has not completed editorial review.
