Date: AD 44. Herod Agrippa I's death is dated by Josephus.

At Caesarea, Herod gives a public address, and the crowd hails him as a god. Because he does not give glory to God, an angel of the Lord strikes him down, and he dies.

Primary Scripture

Acts 12:20–23 (BSB)

12:20 Now Herod was in a furious dispute with the people of Tyre and Sidon, and they convened before him. Having secured the support of Blastus, the king’s chamberlain, they asked for peace, because their region depended on the king’s country for food.

12:21 On the appointed day, Herod donned his royal robes, sat on his throne, and addressed the people.

12:22 And they began to shout, “This is the voice of a god, not a man!”

12:23 Immediately, because Herod did not give glory to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died.

Interpretation and reuse

Narrative order is a reading arrangement, not a proven chronology. Dates retain their stated uncertainty. An identified locality does not establish the exact venue or prove an event. Region extents and routes are illustrative, not surveyed boundaries or ancient roads. Draft material has not completed editorial review.
