Date: Ministry in Galilee. A guided comparison of Gospel accounts, not a measured calendar or a claim that every parallel follows the same sequence.
Jesus asks the disciples who people say he is, then asks for their own answer. Peter confesses him as the Christ; Matthew adds Jesus’s response about revelation, the rock, the church and the keys.
Matthew and Mark name the area around Caesarea Philippi; Luke describes Jesus at prayer without naming the place. Christian traditions interpret the rock and keys differently, and this map does not decide that debate.
Primary Scripture
16:13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, He questioned His disciples: “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”
16:14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
16:15 “But what about you?” Jesus asked. “Who do you say I am?”
16:16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
16:17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah! For this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by My Father in heaven.
16:18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it.
16:19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
16:20 Then He admonished the disciples not to tell anyone that He was the Christ.
8:27 Then Jesus and His disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way, He questioned His disciples: “Who do people say I am?”
8:28 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets.”
8:29 “But what about you?” Jesus asked. “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “You are the Christ.”
8:30 And Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about Him.
9:18 One day as Jesus was praying in private and the disciples were with Him, He questioned them: “Who do the crowds say I am?”
9:19 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, that a prophet of old has arisen.”
9:20 “But what about you?” Jesus asked. “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “The Christ of God.”
9:21 Jesus strictly warned them not to tell this to anyone.
