Date: Birth and childhood. A guided comparison of Gospel accounts, not a measured calendar or a claim that every parallel follows the same sequence.

Matthew ends the return journey at Nazareth after the warning about Judea. Luke summarizes the family’s return to Nazareth after fulfilling the law.

Luke does not narrate the magi or Egyptian stay here. The atlas places these accounts together for comparison without pretending that either author supplies all the other’s intervening details.

Primary Scripture

Matthew 2:22–23 (BSB)

2:22 But when he learned that Archelaus was reigning in Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. And having been warned in a dream, he withdrew to the district of Galilee,

2:23 and he went and lived in a town called Nazareth. So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophets: “He will be called a Nazarene.”

Luke 2:39 (BSB)

2:39 When Jesus’ parents had done everything required by the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth.

Interpretation and reuse

Narrative order is a reading arrangement, not a proven chronology. Dates retain their stated uncertainty. An identified locality does not establish the exact venue or prove an event. Region extents and routes are illustrative, not surveyed boundaries or ancient roads. Draft material has not completed editorial review.
