Date: AD 30 or 33. The same year as the crucifixion, usually dated AD 30 or 33.

When the apostles ask whether he will now restore the kingdom to Israel, Jesus says they will receive power and be his witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the ends of the earth. He is taken up in a cloud, and two men in white say he will come back in the same way.

Acts 1:8 sets out the movement of the whole book, from Jerusalem through Judea and Samaria to the ends of the earth. Acts 1:12 places the ascension on the Mount of Olives.

Primary Scripture

Acts 1:6–11 (BSB)

1:6 So when they came together, they asked Him, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?”

1:7 Jesus replied, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by His own authority.

1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

1:9 After He had said this, they watched as He was taken up, and a cloud hid Him from their sight.

1:10 They were looking intently into the sky as He was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them.

1:11 “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen Him go into heaven.”

Interpretation and reuse

Narrative order is a reading arrangement, not a proven chronology. Dates retain their stated uncertainty. An identified locality does not establish the exact venue or prove an event. Region extents and routes are illustrative, not surveyed boundaries or ancient roads. Draft material has not completed editorial review.
