Date: Ministry in Galilee. A guided comparison of Gospel accounts, not a measured calendar or a claim that every parallel follows the same sequence.

Jesus withdraws to pray, then continues preaching and healing beyond Capernaum. Matthew describes the widening crowds, while Mark emphasizes his purpose of proclaiming the message in other towns.

These are ministry summaries, not a recoverable itinerary of every village. Mark names Galilee, while Luke 4:44 in the BSB reads Judea; the parallel wording should remain visible rather than be silently harmonized.

Primary Scripture

Matthew 4:23–25 (BSB)

4:23 Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.

4:24 News about Him spread all over Syria, and people brought to Him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering acute pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed, and He healed them.

4:25 Large crowds followed Him, having come from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and beyond the Jordan.

Mark 1:35–39 (BSB)

1:35 Early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up and went out to a solitary place to pray.

1:36 Simon and his companions went to look for Him,

1:37 and when they found Him, they said, “Everyone is looking for You!”

1:38 But Jesus answered, “Let us go on to the neighboring towns so I can preach there as well, for that is why I have come.”

1:39 So He went throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons.

Luke 4:42–44 (BSB)

4:42 At daybreak, Jesus went out to a solitary place, and the crowds were looking for Him. They came to Him and tried to keep Him from leaving.

4:43 But Jesus told them, “I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns as well, because that is why I was sent.”

4:44 And He continued to preach in the synagogues of Judea.

Location evidence

Galilee is explicit in Mark and Matthew’s ministry summaries. Luke 4:44 in the BSB names Judea, so both regions are shown without a village-by-village itinerary.

For the class

Why does Jesus continue to other places when people want him to stay?

Interpretation and reuse

Narrative order is a reading arrangement, not a proven chronology. Dates retain their stated uncertainty. An identified locality does not establish the exact venue or prove an event. Region extents and routes are illustrative, not surveyed boundaries or ancient roads. Draft material has not completed editorial review.
