Date: Ministry in Galilee. A guided comparison of Gospel accounts, not a measured calendar or a claim that every parallel follows the same sequence.

At Capernaum a centurion seeks healing for a valued servant and expresses confidence in Jesus’s authority. Jesus commends his faith, and the servant is healed. Matthew also speaks of the kingdom’s coming banquet.

Matthew presents the centurion addressing Jesus; Luke describes Jewish elders and then friends speaking on his behalf. Keep those narrative differences visible. This is not John’s royal official and son at Cana.

## Primary Scripture

[Matthew 8:5–13 (BSB)](https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%208%3A5%E2%80%9313&version=BSB)

8:5 When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came and pleaded with Him,

8:6 “Lord, my servant lies at home, paralyzed and in terrible agony.”

8:7 “I will go and heal him,” Jesus replied.

8:8 The centurion answered, “Lord, I am not worthy to have You come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.

8:9 For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell one to go, and he goes, and another to come, and he comes. I tell my servant to do something, and he does it.”

8:10 When Jesus heard this, He marveled and said to those following Him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith.

8:11 I say to you that many will come from the east and the west to share the banquet with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.

8:12 But the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

8:13 Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go! As you have believed, so will it be done for you.” And his servant was healed at that very hour.

[Luke 7:1–10 (BSB)](https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke%207%3A1%E2%80%9310&version=BSB)

7:1 When Jesus had concluded His discourse in the hearing of the people, He went to Capernaum.

7:2 There a highly valued servant of a centurion was sick and about to die.

7:3 When the centurion heard about Jesus, he sent some Jewish elders to ask Him to come and heal his servant.

7:4 They came to Jesus and pleaded with Him earnestly, “This man is worthy to have You grant this,

7:5 for he loves our nation and has built our synagogue.”

7:6 So Jesus went with them. But when He was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends with the message: “Lord, do not trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy to have You come under my roof.

7:7 That is why I did not consider myself worthy to come to You. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.

7:8 For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell one to go, and he goes, and another to come, and he comes. I tell my servant to do something, and he does it.”

7:9 When Jesus heard this, He marveled at the centurion. Turning to the crowd following Him, He said, “I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such great faith.”

7:10 And when the messengers returned to the house, they found the servant in good health.

## Interpretation and reuse

Narrative order is a reading arrangement, not a proven chronology. Dates retain their stated uncertainty. An identified locality does not establish the exact venue or prove an event.
